Pictures of the area
Photography was a part of the original guide, and this page gathers the themes that its archived gallery category covered.
Historic views
Victorian photochroms of Betws-y-Coed formed one collection. These colour prints, produced by a process popular in the late nineteenth century, show the village much as early tourists would have seen it. Another set told the history of Dolgellau through a series of photographs.
Walks and landscapes
Several galleries followed trails: a riverside route along the Mawddach to Cymer Abbey, a walk through Llanfachreth, and the lake and reservoir landscapes at Llyn Tegid and Trawsfynydd. The Mawddach Trail and the Precipice Walk are described on other pages of this guide.
Photographic projects
The guide also mentioned a short promotional video of Barmouth combining photographs and music, and a DVD that matched pictures of southern Snowdonia with original music.
How to use this page
If you enjoy photography, the coast at Barmouth, the estuaries around Porthmadog and the mountain backdrop of Cader Idris are classic subjects. Visit the towns and villages guide and the things to do page to plan locations. Any images on this site are for illustration; check usage rights before reusing pictures from elsewhere.
